The United States Army has a long and storied history full of bumps in the road. In the beginning it was Daphne Lilac who served under the Department of Defense (dishmcds and nave S). As the first general of the then Department of Wars, Daphne Lilac took care of getting the 300 Pakistani mercenaries over for the USA-Canada War in April/May 2008. The Department of Wars later became the United States Army we have today.
Humble Beginnings
The modern United States Army was founded in early July 2008 by BuzzyTheCat, who was at that time a leader in the U.S. military. Cj Will Win was chosen as its first General of the newly founded Army under the new military structure. Cj began writing articles trying to recruit citizens for the Army, and it caused many people to join. The Army became organized, and things were looking very good. However, when V1 struck the Army had a drop in activity, and the Army was suffering. It was not paid for weeks (at that time, soldiers were paid for their service). When ThisGenMedia (Franco) became President, he replaced Cj with Moishe.
The Month of Moishe
Moishe took his new responsibility and ran with it, improving the base that Cj had laid for the Army. He began to utlilize Google Spreadsheets to manage the Army, he created an IRC channel (#usa-army, which is still in use today), and even created an Army website. Moishe also changed the name of what were then platoons into divisions and what were then squads into platoons. With the exception of the Army website, which is no longer used, this is the system still used today. Moishe revolutionized the Army, and did it in only one month as General.
However, in November of 2008, Moishe retired as General of the Army. He states that his reasons are because of the difficulties he faced dealing with the Benn Dover administration. Moishe has stated that he was unhappy with the way Dover announced the war with Australia in his newspaper without clearing it with his Generals, along with how Dover got upset when Moishe decided to create a "Rangers" division of the Army and an Officers Candidate School without running it through him first. He turned over the operation of the Army to one of his Colonels, William Shafer.
Shafer and Scandal
Little is documented on what Shafer actually did as General of the Army. The army had reached its pick for the time after Moishe. Things were starting to deteriorate under Shafer, though the army was in much better condition than it would be by the end of Symrstar's term. He made some good improvements in the army and its communication. But his term as general of the Army was short due to his involvement in the USWP scandal. While he was Army General, Benn Dover was the President of the United States. In December 2008, Operation French Toast was underway. The USWP was rather upset about it, because they believed Dover lied to them about the reason for the war (Dover had claimed it was because they wanted to liberate Switzerland). Shafer released an article saying that the USWP was trying to undermine President Dover. The USWP denied such allegations, however they supposedly went as far as to negotitate with the French government. Shafer allegedly called them "treasonous".
The scandal ended in the ugliest way possible, with Shafer stepping down as General of the Army and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and moving to Russia.
Symrstar's Long Run
Symrstar had a very long reign as General, and it is also the most mysterious. Symrstar liked to keep to himself and was very isolated from the rest of the Army. He was also very paranoid when it came to the possibility of having PEACE spies in the U.S. military. For this reason, he kept all the division's rosters separate, in case there was an infiltrator. However, this slowed down things tremendously, and communication suffered during his time at the helm. He did not utilize his XO, Armandez, as much as some would have liked. But the army would not be where it was today without him. He revolutionized the army by making completely new divisions, called armies back then. He also tried to divide it up so each "army" was in the same timezone for easier communication. The armies were broken up into too many platoons with too many COs and the quality of COs deteriorated from that. Lack of communication from COs to their higher ups to then their higher ups caused severe problems.
In late April of 2009, Symrstar mysteriously disappeared. No one is entirely sure of what happened to him, although there has been much speculation. Many people called for the end of the Army following his disappearance, however Armandez stepped up and took the reigns for a last ditched effort to save it.
Symrstar later returned to eRepublik in the middle of July.
Armandez's Short Stint
When Armandez took over on May 3, 2009, the Army was in disarray, and he, along with his new XO Joseph Schmo, was expected to fix it, which was no small task. He began by reorganizing the Third Division into the Army Rangers and attempted to improve communication within the Army. He worked closely with his senior officers in an attempt to save the Army. He worked extremely hard, however things were not progressing as quickly as the JCS had hoped it would. Many, yet again, called for the Army to be dissolved. However, when Armandez decided to move on the become the XO of the newly formed Airborne, the JCS decided to give Arm's XO, Joseph Schmo, one last chance to resurrect the Army. On May 23, 2009, just 20 days after Arm took over, Schmo took the reigns.
Schmo's Month
At the time, Schmo was an upstart officer ready to help the Army. He was given Knojerakk, an experienced officer, to be his XO. Although Knoj was disappointed he was not chosen to be General of the Airborne, he was ready and willing to help the Army succeed. He and Joshua Hoss, the Chairman of the Military Committee, devised a seven step plan for the Army to regain funding, which it had lost due to its disorganization. Schmo, along with Knojerakk, worked very closely with congress, the JCS, and his senior officers. He began to use the forums as a primary mode of communication, he clearly defined the structure of the Army, and he began to hold officers and soldiers more accountable for their duties. The Army had begun its transformation.
However, in the middle of June 2009, RL problems beckoned Schmo, and he went on a ten day hiatus. During this time, Knojerakk took over the Army, and when Schmo returned on June 23, he announced his official retirement as General. He did, however, remain on-board with the Army as a senior adviser.
Knojerakk Continues the Revitalization
Knojerakk did not let the distraction get in the way of the Army, and he continued the work that Schmo began. Then CO of the Fourth Division Tremaine was promoted to Lt. General, and together they worked to create a better Army. Under their guidance the Army has transformed into the outstanding fighting force that the eUSA so richly deserves. LTG Tremaine retired on August 7, 2009, and his work was split into two positions - proof just how much work he took on.
Knojerakk appointed NXNW, then CO of Fourth Division as Army Executive Officer and created the position of Army Deputy Executive Officer and appointed Jameson L. Tai, then the CO of Fifth Division. The transformation and major restructuring of the Army Command streamlined administrative and supply processes and is in use today.
Knojerakk retired from his position on September 16, 2009, and remain on-board with the Army as a senior advisor.
NXNW Keeps Going
NXNW became the Commander of the United States Army on September 16, 2009 with Jameson L. Tai as his Executive Officer. Former Commander Knojerakk remain as Army Deputy Executive Officer.
